After the disappointing, The Bone Forest, the Mythago Wood series returns to top form with The Hollowing. I loved The Hollowing. This book touches on events in the second book, Lavondyss, focusing on Tallis’s disappearance and events from the first book featuring the Huxley’s but is a complete, stand-alone tale.4/5(45). Perhaps Mythago Wood's clever premise makes it worth a read, but poorly written books with good ideas are minor books, even in the ghetto of genre fantasy. This is why Tolkien and Mervyn Peake have credibility in the literary world as a whole, while many other good "idea writers" don't/5(91).

There are electronic versions of Mythago Wood itself, Lavondyss, and The Hollowing, but these are all I can find. As a blind reader I unfortunately cannot read print, so I'm left feeling somewhat frustrated. If this is a matter of publisher fiat, I'd love to know what I can do to get the rest of the books available digitally in some form. Paperback. very good paperback, Michael Posen cover 1st printing. At the beginning of his writing career and before his brilliant Mythago Wood books, Holdstock wrote a couple of more standard sci fi novels, of which this is the second. So now more than 30 years later, I've finally discovered one of the best fantasy works I've ever read. Wildly imaginative, beautifully written and compelling, this book is an absolute joy/5().

"Mythago Wood" was a landmark in modern fantasy, a book that attempted to fuse the dream-like ambiance that suffused the faerie worlds of Lord Dunsany with the long ago world of Irish and English mythology, setting it all in an extremely weird forest and simultaneously trying to remind us that most myths aren't built on super-pleasant 4/5.

Andy Wood. L'inventore ISBN:   That doesn't seem like a mythago and I'm not sure how that latter element in the story operates in space and time. I find it odd that in Ryhope there are communities living out there own lives, e.g. the Shamiga. Why are there only three random Saxons in the entirety of the wood?

I feel like there must surely be whole kingdoms and communities.
